Stage 2 - Determine Acceptable Evidence.

Performance Task (Summary in G.R.A.S.P.S. form): (T)
Goal: The challenge is to find the best plays in a professional sport to gain the most points by using Google Earth.
Role: The role the student will take on is a coach.
Audience: Other coaches of poor playing teams will want to hear your plays.
Situation: Poor performing sports will make their team better.
Product/Presentation: Student will use google earth and then choose their own method to present their findings.
Standards (six categories for each rubric)

Presentation Rubric: Vocabulary 20%, Comprehension 20%, Preparedness 15%, Posture and Eye Contact 20%, Collaboration with Peers 15%, Peer Evaluation 10%
Product Rubric: Content 30%, Organization 10%, Attractiveness 10%, Rough Draft 30%, Mechanics 10%, Originality 10%
Other Evidence (quizzes, test, prompts, observations, dialogues, work sample, etc.):
Other Evidence (OE)
• Use google sketch up to design polygons and then show how right triangles are in the polygons.
• Use Geogebra to create points and find distances between them.
• Find a sports field on Google Earth to use a Right triangle to find a shorter route.
• Using a slideshow, create polygons and compare to find right triangles.
• Create a brochure with 3 examples of where Pythagorean Theorem is used in the world.
• Use iMovie to find right triangles in the world and explain how they would use the Pythagorean Theorem by making a commericial.
Student Self-Assessment and Reflection
Self-Assessment (SA)
• Pre- Assessment: Pre-test Survey
• Checking for Understanding: I will use: quickie quiz, slap it, cubing, Talk a mile a minute, ABC summaries, exit card
• Timely Feedback: Self, peer teacher

Assessment Task Blue Print

What understandings/goals will be assessed through this task? (G)
Understanding
Goal (MLR or CCSS or NGSS)
• The Pythagorean Theorem is everywhere in the world. (U1)
• The Pythagorean Theorem can be used to find unknown distances. (U2)
• Right triangles are in many different polygons. (U3)
• Common Core Standard: Geometry Standards: 7, 8

What criteria are implied in the standard(s) understanding(s) regardless of the task specifics? What qualities must student work demonstrate to signify that standards were met?
Big Ideas
Big Ideas
• Pythagorean Theorem
• Unknown Distances

Through what authentic performance task will students demonstrate understandings?
Task Description: (T)
Coaches of professional sports teams that are not succeeding in their games are looking for new plays that will help their team. Your task is to create new plays for the team and convince them what would a bad play look like and create many new plays that other coaches would want. You will use Google Earth to find your sports' field and you will then want to create hypothetical plays and use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the unknown distances. You will then create some way to show the coaches what your plays are and why they would be useful to them. If they like your plays, you will be paid for the use of them on their team.

What student products/performances will provide evidence of desired understandings?
